Born July 18, 1916, near Russellville, Ala., Edward Daniel Borden passed away Aug. 13, 2005, due to complications from a stroke and subsequent pneumonia. In Heaven he will join his wife of almost 64 years, Ada Mae Moore Borden, who preceded him in death on June 29. He was the sixth of 10 children born to James Thomas and Lou Ella Hampton Gibson Borden.

Mourning his passing are his five children, Dwaine Borden (Donna Kay) of Huntsville, Royce Borden (Donna Marie) of Aiken, S.C., Teresa Borden of Houston, Texas, Lynn Borden (Linda) of Trinty, Bonita Culver (Roger) of Moulton, their families which include 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his only surviving sibling, Alton Borden (Ophelia) of Decatur.

Mr. Borden's first love was music and beginning at the age of 10, he taught himself to play the harmonica, banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle. He traveled throughout the South and Southeast in the early 1930s to play music at various places from Miami to Atlanta and Asheville, N.C. He and his brother, Milton, along with friend, Floyd Kirby, are mentioned in the book "Pickin' on Peachtree — A History of Country Music in Atlanta, Georgia," by Wayne W. Daniel. At the time, they were appearing on Atlanta radio station WSB as The National Drifters. While working here at Goodyear, he and friend, Harlan Tanksley, formed the Goodyear Jubilee Boys and could be heard daily on radio station WMSL. He continued to play all his life and frequently joined friends to perform at local nursing homes in Morgan and Lawrence Counties.

He excelled at electric motor repair, a mostly self-taught career. He retired at age 62 from Beltline Electric, but continued to work part-time for several years. Many from the surrounding area will remember dropping something off for repair at Ed's backyard shop, even as recently as last month. He enjoyed tinkering with motors and always stayed busy.
The family offers special thanks and appreciation to Pastor Steve Caudle, members of Trinity Baptist Church, and friends and neighbors for their support.

Visitation will be at Roselawn Funeral Home tonight from 6 to 9. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Steve Caudle, are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, with burial immediately following at Roselawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Borden, Jeremy "Bubba" Borden, Christopher Johnson and Tony Patterson, along with Troy Terry and Tim Wilks, both of Trinity.

Visitors will be welcomed afterward at the reception hall at Trinity Baptist Church.
