William enlisted in December 1862 under Capt. Ed Baxter. He served in the Baxters Co. Light Artillery, Confederate States Army, Tn. He served as a teamster in Civil War. He was captured and paroled on April 28, 1865 at Macon, Georgia
William suffered a concussion and loss of hearing due to artillery firings and had abscess in right leg under knee after shot, which later developed into severe rheumatism.

SULLIVAN, WILLIAM - Bon Aqua, Route 1 - On Wednesday morning, Feb. 11, William Sullivan who had almost reached the century mark in his age, being well up in 90's, and who was a Civil War veteran serving more than three years in the Confederate army, died at his home near Pleasant Valley, Williamson county. Deceased is survived by eight sons. Four of them are ministers in the Missionary and Free Will Baptist Churches and Methodist Church; and three daughters and a host of grand children. Interment was in the Hudgin's graveyard, Thursday afternoon Feb. 12th.
