pub in the Walnut Creek, CA, Contra Costa Times on Monday April 15, 1996 - OBY RAY BRYANT - ANTIOCH - Oby Bryant, an employee at Fireboard in Antioch for 40 years, died Saturday at his home in Antioch after a short illness. He was 76. The native of Hunstville, AR grew up in Wilburton, OK before moving to Antioch in 1941. He moved to Palo Verde in 1988 and came back to Antioch in February. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters of Antioch since 1967, and United Pulp and Paper Workers Union Local 714 of Antioch. He retired in 1974 as a No. 1 machine tender. He enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his daughters, Marlene Albright and Donna Harper, both of Antioch, and Cathy Sawyer of Oakley; sons, James Eddie Bryant of Dayton, NV and Wayne Ray Bryant of Palo Verde; sisters, Lula Miller of Clyde and Grace Holston of Seattle; brother, Norman Leon Bryant of Antioch; 20 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. His wife of 12 years, Ruby Irene Bryant, died in 1988. Services: on Thursday at Higgins Funeral Chapel in Antioch, with visitation on Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Burial at Union Cemetery in Brentwood.
