Andrew Anderson was born in Sweden. He emigrates in 1880 as a single young man, the first of his siblings to come to the US. He works for a time in Pulman, IL (near Blue Island) as a carpenter constructing Pullman Railroad cars. He then moves to Deuel Co., SD to farm and by 1888 has married Anna Sophia Andersdotter, a "mail order bride" recommended by a neighbor who knew her family in Sweden. They have 7 kids together while still in SD. About 1901 the family moves to Hayland Twp., Mille Lacs Co., MN. After a first winter living as a family of 9 in a tent, Andrew builds a first rudimentary dwelling. The permanent 12 room final house is finished in 1911. Andrew Anderson farms 7 miles north of Milaca for the rest of his life, until he dies of liver cancer in 1921.
