Carl Halvorsen graduated High School 1907 & moved to the converted schoolhouse where his great-uncle Halvor Swensen lived in North Branch until Halvor's death in 1923. In return for Carl & his mother Sophia's care, the house would become his. He built a new house next to Halvor's in 1916 where he lived after marrying Ella Beers. The couple moved to Syracuse in 1935. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Syracuse, and Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 57 A.F. and A.M.; holder of the Jordan Medal on February 15, 1981, having belonged longer than any other member. He was a past Master and past Patron of O.E.S. and served on the District 66 Board of Education.
The family received the Pioneer Farm Award in 1967 for having the same farm in the family for 100 years.
