Geraldine M. (Vap) DeVader Lane, 76, of Topeka, passed away Tues., March 23, 2010. She was born July 11, 1933 in Atwood KS, the fifth of nine children of Joseph and Anna (Kacirek) Vap. Mrs. Lane was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Omaha NE and in 1956, she earned her diploma from Marymount College School of Nursing in Salina KS. Mrs. Lane was formerly a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital for 19 years and retired after 20 years of service from the Colmery-ONeil Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka KS. Mrs. Lane married Leonard DeVader in January 1957 and together they had four children, Diana, Bruce, Cindy and Curt. They later divorced. In 1978, Mrs. Lane married Marvin Lane who died in January 1981. Mrs. Lane was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Ladies Altar Society and was a Legion of Mary Auxiliary member. Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her son, Bruce, her parents, two brothers, Leonard and Melvin, and four sisters, Sister Joseph Ann, Ramona, Virgie and Bonnie. She is survived by her three children, Diana (DeVader) and David Murray, Grand Junction CO; Cindy (DeVader) and Greg Sleeper, Berryton KS; and Curt DeVader, Wildomar CA. Grammie will be dearly missed by her six grandchildren, Christopher, Tyler, Candace, Curt, Morgan and Anastasia. She is also survived by two brothers, Leo Vap of Stillwell KS and Eugene Vap of Santa Rosa CA. Family will greet friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Thurs. at Sacred Heart Church, Topeka KS, where a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Inurnment will be private.
