Joseph F. Vap was born to Fred and Frances (Pochop) Vap March 4, 1901 in Rawlins County, Kansas. He passed away at Rawlins County Hospital in Atwood, Kan., on Feb. 8, 1986.
On Sept. 28, 1926, Joseph F. Vap and Anna A. Kacirek were united in marriage. To this union nine children were born.
Joe loved the challenge of business and the earth of the farm. His greatest love was that of his children and his wife. Joe took pride in his family, business and community.
He departed this life at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 4 days. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Adolph, Louis, Fred and Rudolph; one sister, Floriana O.S.B.; one daughter, Yvonne; and one son, Melvin.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; his children, Leonard and wife, Evelyn, and Irene (Vap) Guth, all of Atwood, Kan., Sr. Joseph Ann of Belvidere, Ill., Ramona and husband, Bill Hanson and Virginia and husband, Don Hamilton, all of Salina, Kan., Geraldine Lane of Topeka, Kan., A.J. Ripperger (Yvonne) of San Antonio, Tex., Leo and wife, Ellen of LaCrosse, Kan., Eugene and wife, Gretchen of Petaluma, Calif.; brothers, Elijah Vap of McCook, Neb., and John Vap of Boulder, Colo.; 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3033 of Atwood, member of the Fourth Degree St. Pius X Assembly and a former member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club of Atwood.

His father Fred (1869-1936) was the son of Frank Vap Sr and Mary Kadlec (Cadlek, Kattletz, Kadlise, Sedlak, & other variations of her surname have been recorded). His mother Frances (1879-1939) was the daughter of George Pochop and Anna Chyba.
