---James "Jim" Morris Easley, 74, of Elmer died at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday (June 15, 1983) in Laughlin Osteopathic Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the day. He had been in ill health for the past six months.
---The son of James Morris and Rhoda Ellen (Gunnels) Easley Sr., he was born Jan. 30, 1909 near La Crosse in Macon County.
---He was never married.
---Surviving are two brothers, Roy Easley of Kirksville and Sanford Easley of Hematite, Mo.; one sister, Zula McVay of rural Novinger and several nieces and nephews.
---Mr. Easley was a veteran of World War II and had farmed and worked on the Santa Fe Railroad prior to his retirement. He had lived most of his life in the rural Elmer area.
---Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (June 18, 1983) at the Pollock Funeral Chapel in La Plata with the Rev. Hobart Youngblood of Kirksville officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Grove Cemetery near Gifford. Bearers were Larry Sinclair, Gail "Bud" Herrington, William "Bill" McVay, Daniel McVay, John Easley and Howard Easley.
