Argyle "Argie" Simmons Shank, 82, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Argie was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Davis, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Edward and Chloe Simmons.

She worked at Metro Pants Company as a seamstress, loved her grandchildren and was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast.

On June 6, 1946, she married Olin F. Jarrells, who preceded her in death in 1963. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Alvin David Shank; a stepson, Steve Shank; and by one sister and four brothers.

She is survived by one son, Wayne "Doc" Jarrells and wife, Debra; two daughters, Sandra Shifflett and husband, Ernest Jr., and Lori Knicely and husband, Rick; one stepdaughter, Brenda Comer and husband, Michael; two brothers, Hoy Simmons and Richard Simmons; one sister, Twila Wolford; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with Pastor Sonny Henkel officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
