His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Box and Elizabeth Box. His maternal grandmother was Hester Cox King Mayes.
Matthew married Margaret E(lizabeth) Seats (daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Elizabeth Dobson Seats) on March 2, 1889 in Butler Co., MO. They had 5 children: William Jennings, my paternal grandmother Delia Ann, Maud Odessa, Bertha Beatrice, and Thomas Glenster.
A family story relates "Matthew" was removing furniture from a burning building in 1901 (possibly the former Seats Hotel which was located in Ellsinore, Carter Co., MO and owned by Margaret Box's aunt, Nancy "Nannie" Seats) and he collapsed and died of a heart attack.
My grandmother was only 9 years old when her dad died, so unfortunately none of her 9 children nor her numerous grandchildren ever had the opportunity to meet Matthew. I hope to meet him in heaven.
A MILLION "Thank Yous" to my loving aunt, Virgie Carter Alcorn-Evans, who helped me clear the Seats Cemetery several years ago to take these tombstone photos.
