Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth Seats Box (my paternal great-grandmother) was born in MO, a daughter of Benjamin Seats (born in AR) and Sarah Elizabeth Dobson Seats (born in MO). She had 6 known siblings: Nancy Jane, William Bennett, Mary Ellen, John Edward, Thomas Warren, and Martha Alice.

"Maggie" married Maston "Matthew" Wiley Box on March 2, 1889 in Butler Co., MO and they had 5 children: William Jennings, Delia Ann, Maude Odessa, Bertha Beatrice, and Thomas Glenster. After Matthew's death in 1901, Maggie continued raising her children but never remarried. My father used to speak fondly about "Grandma Box" and visiting with her often.

Her obituary was published in the 10-14-1943 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, MO, on the front page (used with permission)

"Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Boxx [sic], age 72, died late Sunday, following a long illness. She had been a resident of Ellsinore and vicinity all of her long life. Her husband, Matt Boxx [sic], died here in 1901. She is survived by two sons, William Boxx [sic] of Los Angeles, California and Thomas of Glendale, California; three daughters, Mrs. Scott Alcorn and Mrs. Norvin Tucker of Ellsinore and Mrs. Orrin Partney of Kansas City; one brother, W. B. Seats, who is now seriously ill in a hospital in Poplar Bluff, and one sister, Mrs. Martha Moore, of Ellsinore.

Mrs. Boxx [sic] was a member of the Methodist church where the funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. H. C. Whitcanack, and interment took place at the family cemetery on the Seats farm in the Halloren community."

A MILLION "Thank Yous" to my loving aunt, Virgie Carter Alcorn-Evans, who helped me clear the Seats Cemetery several years ago to take these tombstone photos.
