Yates Rites to Be Held on Thursday
Funeral services for Arthur Yates, 80, retired farmer and resident of Emmet County for the past 50 years are to be Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the new Fuhrman Funeral Home on N. 7th St., the Rev. Fred Sawyer of Des Moines officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Yates died suddenly yesterday shortly before 10 a.m. at his home. He had suffered from a heart ailment since 1949.

Born Sept. 5, 1882, near Glidden in Carroll County, he was the son of William and Mary Yates. He received his education in the country schools near Glidden and continued living there as a young man.

Arthur Yates and Elva Minor were married Oct. 1, 1903 in Carroll and 10 years later, on March 1, 1913, moved to Emmet County where they settled on a farm. They continued farming in the Estherville area until 1936 when they retired and moved to their present home located at the southwest edge of the city.

Mr. Yates is survived by his widow, five daughters, Mrs. John (Neva) Higgins of Dolliver, Mrs. D. A. (Ruth) Scars, Estherville; Mrs. D. C. (Edna) Webster and Faye Yates, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Emory (Alice) Prentice of Sioux Falls; two sons, Glen of Des Moines and Arnold of Estherville; 11 grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Alice McDonald of Glidden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call all day Wednesday and until time of the services Thursday at the present Sandin-Funeral Home on S. 9th St. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 22, 1963)
