Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for William Henry Yates, 77, who died Tuesday after a brief illness. Rev. W. M. Logan officiated at the rites, which were held in the chapel of the Smith Funeral Home, and interment was in the Garden of Memories. A native of DcKalb, Illinois, Mr. Yates had lived in the Rio Grande Valley, having come to Kerrville from McAllen about five years ago. Since coming here he had been active in community enterprises and was a member of the Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of this city, three step daughters, Mrs. Lorna Dedrick, Glidden, Iowa, and Mrs. Jane Jackson and Mrs. Evalyn Davenport of McAllen. A brother and sister, who reside in Iowa also survive. Mrs. Yates had gone to McAllen to be with one of her daughters, who was ill, and her, husband was alone. R. G. Barnes called the home Monday morning. And upon receiving no answer to a knock, opened the door to find him lying in the doorway. His death was attributed to a blood clot.
