Gerald Wayne (Gary) Landers was born October 2, 1946 to Challie F. (Bud) and Shirley A. (Taylor) Landers in Taylorville, Illinois. He passed away November 16, 2010 in Taylorville, Illinois. He first married Denise L. Winter on August 1, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They divorced and later on December 26, 2001, he married Patricia Rachel Poole Leach.
He was a retired machine operator, worked on CB radios and did handyman work for several people.
He was in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California where he worked in the motor pool. He loved to camp, fish, garden and hunt mushrooms.
He is survived by his wife Patricia and mother Shirley, both of Taylorville; daughters Roberta (Bobbi) and husband Marvin Gomez of Thornton, Colorado, Deborah (Debbie) and husband Joshua Stephens of Taylorville, Illinois, step-sons, Matthew (Dagmara) Leach of Richmond Hills, Georgia and Marcus Leach of Phoenix, Arizona, grand children, Taryn Landers and Paige Gomez of Thornton, Colorado, Austin Totten, Lucas Stephens and Alexander Stephens of Taylorville, Illinois, Shaylee Ferguson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, step- grandchildren Kaitly, Christopher and Cory of Salt Lake City, Utah and Logan Leach of Richmond Hills, Georgia. His brother Scott (Dottie) Landers, sister Becky (Bob) Nelson both of Taylorville, Illinois. Two nieces, Taylor Landers of Taylorville and Tahnee Landers of Spokane, Washington; nephews, Mike and Lance Nelson , Adam and Cole Landers all of Taylorville and Derek Landers of Spokane, Washington, two great nephews and one great niece.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, father, Challie (Bud) Landers, son Terrence (Terry) Landers, brother Charles Landers and great nephew Lane Nelson.
Visitation will be November 22, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Sutton MemoriaL Home in Taylorville. The funeral will be November 23, 2010 at the funeral home and he will be buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. Pastor Steve Switzer will conduct the service.
