Mrs. Roy Karr, 71, of Traer, who was held in high regard by a wide circle of friends, died unexpectedly in Schoitz Memorial hospital in Waterloo at 8:45 Wednesday night, of an acute coronary attack. Mrs. Karr had not been seriously ill. She complained of chest pains early Sunday morning, and a doctor was called. She was better the next day but on Tuesday morning suffered a severe attack and was taken to the hospital in the Erickson ambulance. Her condition appeared improved Wednesday and she visited with members of her family during the day and early evening. Some of the family had been with her shortly before she was fatally stricken.
Services are to be held in the Erickson Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, to be conducted by Rev. Eugene Rasmussen, Methodist pastor. Mrs. Burdell Staker is to sing, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Leland Sealock. The pallbearers will be Forrest Edwards, Clayton Young, Burton Romick, Donald Steffeny, Don Sears and David W. Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. George Schmidt will be in charge of the flowers. Members of the Rebekah lodge are to attend the service in a body and to conduct a graveside service in Buckingham cemetery. The home service chairman for the North Tama Red Cross chapter wired authorities at Fort Hood, Texas, yesterday asking that Private LeRoy Karr, a soldier there be given an emergency leave to attend his grandmother's funeral.

Mrs. Karr was born Bertha Coleman, December 16, 1889 in Linn county, Iowa, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Coleman. She was twelve years old when her mother died, but her father kept his family together, and the daughter Bertha was home until her marriage , August 4, 1909 to Roy Karr at Marion. In the fall of that year Mr. and Mrs. Karr came to the Traer community and Roy was employed by Roy West. He worked for Mr. West for two or three years, then farmed the West place on shares for a time. Then they rented the Theodore F. Clark estate farm near Clark State Park, remaining 14 years. From there they moved to Harold Pritchard's farm in the same neighborhood for a stay of 8 years, then farmed in the La Porte City community for 11 years. In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Karr moved to Missouri, buying a small farm near Wheatland, which they operated for two years. Then they traded their Missouri farm for a motel near Springfield, Missouri, which they operated until 1956, when they returned to Traer.

Mr. and Mrs. Karr were the parents of seven children, all of whom are living, five sons, Dale, of Cedar Rapids; Raymond, or Vinton; Cleone, La Porte City; Meryl, of Washburn, and Darrell, of Traer; and two daughters: Mrs. Lenore Nation of Traer; and Mrs. Nadine Kanis, or the Dysart community. Mrs. Karr also leaves 27 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Frank Coleman, of Pontiac, Michigan. Seven 'brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Karr was a member of the Traer Methodist Church and of Laurel Rebekah Lodge. She was a past noble grand of the Rebekahs. Mr. and Mrs. Karr celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in August, 1959.
