Levi came from Pennsylvania to Stephenson County with his parents in 1840. He began working on the family farm east of the village of Rock Grove and after the death of his father he purchased about 150 acres of the property. He retired after the death of his wife in 1888. He was active in political, civic and religious affairs. He served the township as its commissioner of highways and as a school trustee. For many years he was vice president of the Old Settlers Association and was very active in the Bolender Reunion Association.
