COOKEVILLE Funeral services, with full military honors, for Kenneth Dow Boyd, 90, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the funeral home.

Mr. Boyd died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 27, 1918, in Baxter to the late William Franklin and Sarah Naomi Jernigan Boyd.

Mr. Boyd was a charter member of Boma Church of God.

He served as a Tech. Sgt. in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. He served under General Patton in North Africa and Sicily and received six Bronze Stars with Bronze Arrowheads.

Mr. Boyd worked as an electrical engineer at General Telephone and Electric in Lexington, Ky. He retired in 1981 and moved back to Cookeville in 1988. Mr. Boyd was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Society of Professional Engineers and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

His family includes his wife of 62 years, Mabel Irene Anderson Boyd; a son, Dr. Michael Ray Boyd and wife Ginni M. of Mobile, Ala.; and two sisters, Faye Boyd Bebe of Largo, Fla. and Norma Sue Reed and husband Gary of Knoxville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde William and Grady Howard Boyd.
