Maria Ruben "Ruby" Gomez Jaquez, 80, of Aztec, left this world Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, after a lengthy illness that never caused her faith to waver. She was born Oct. 27, 1930, to Juan Cristobal and Agapita Julianita Gomez.
Ruby was a faithful follower of Christ. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Aztec. She belonged to the Legion of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul, Wednesday morning Bible study, Eucharistic ministry and she served as an usher and greeter. Ruby hardly ever missed church. If you couldn't find her at home, the grocery store or the beauty shop, she was at church. If you were new to the church you always had a longtime friend. Ruby was always ready to take you for coffee and donuts after Sunday Mass.
There was always room at Ruby's table for you and if you needed a place to stay she would offer you her home. She enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking, baking and having a garden. Ruby may not have eaten much but she always had room for dessert even up to her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Elyssa L. Montoya; her siblings, Ponciano Gomez, Juanito Gomez, Celso Gomez, Delfinita Chavez, Cristobal Gomez and Agapita Abeyta; father-in-law, Onofre Jaquez Sr. and mother-in-law, Alvina Jaquez.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Buster Jaquez; five children, Teresa M. (Glen) Perkins, Christine A. (Ralph) Montoya, Herman Jaquez, H. Robert Jaquez and Steven M. Jaquez; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her siblings, Gregorita Jaquez, Matilda Martinez, Molly Jacques, Genoveva Candelaria, Beatrice Rodriguez and twin brother, Joe Gomez.
Rosary for Ruby will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 500 N. Mesa Verde Ave. in Aztec.
