Maria Delfinita Gómez Chávez, 79, was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Dulce, to Juan Cristobal and Agapita G. Gomez. She died and went to be with our Heavenly Father on April 19, 2008, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, due to complications from cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Olivia in 1962; and her brother, Celso Gomez in 2004.

Delfinita is survived by her husband, Flavio; children, Mario and wife, Emily, Anna Maria, Rigo and wife, Miriam, Felix and wife, Mayra, and Lincoln; her grandchildren, Dominic and Alisha, their mother Grace Coca, and Dominic's wife, Misty, Miranda, Marcela, Christian, Liliana, Opialan and Jessica; her brothers and sisters, Gregorita, Matilde, Agapita, Molly, Juan Cristobal, Joe, Ruby, Genevieve and Beatrice; and numerous nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She spent the first six years of her life in the family home in Gobernador. In 1934, she began attending Sacred Heart Catholic Academy in Waterflow, where she graduated in 1948. She worked for many years as a Deputy District Court Clerk in Aztec. In 1953, she and Flavio were married in Aztec.
She was a faithful Catholic. She loved to pray, to sing (she was a coloratura soprano), to sew, to cook, bake and can the fresh vegetables and fruits from her husband's garden. Her pride and joy, vocation and devotion were her husband, her children and her beloved grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmington.

Rosary for her heavenly repose will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St., in Farmington.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Aztec. Interment service will follow the funeral service at Aztec Cemetery, Sabena Street in Aztec.

Pallbearers are her nephews, Chris Jacquez, Nick Chavez, Norman Chavez, Ted Rodriguez, Lenny Candelaria and Robert Jacquez.

Honorary pallbearers are all of her nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 500 N. Mesa Verde Ave., in Aztec.

Delfinita is in the care of Cope Memorial Chapel, 405 S. Main Ave., in Aztec; (505) 334-9332.
