He was a service manager at O'Loughlin Motor Co. for 40 years and was an insurance agent for American Family Insurance for 22 years, retiring in 1985. He was a baseball pitcher for the Hays Larks and surrounding communities and was a former secretary for the Hays Baseball Association. He also was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 6984, both of Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of the home; two sons, Verlyn J. of Overland Park and Stanley P. of Houston; three daughters, Joan Wellbrock of Victoria, Doris Macek of Houston and Lois Wagner of Las Cruces, N.M.; five brothers, Alexius, Cyril, Jerome and Marion, all of Hays, and Donald of Wichita; four sisters, Loretta Joy of Hays, Cecelia Quint and Mary Louise Rupp, both of Wichita, and Helen Edmunds of Groose, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, the Revs. Earl Befort, Don Zimmerman and Paulinus Karlin officiating. Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus 6984 rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, Hays 67601.
Memorials may be made to TMP-Marian High School. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
