Cecilia C. Quint, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at the Via Christi Ridge Cornerstone Skilled Nursing Center in Wichita.

She was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Ellis County to Paul and Catherine Walters Schmidt.

She was an avid bridge player and sports fan and enjoyed traveling, and loved quilting and needlework. She was a member and past president of Toast Mistresses in Hays and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #9076.

She and her first husband of 29 years, Richard Pfeifer, farmed and ranched in Rush County and lived in Hays, where they raised their children. Cecilia married Richard Quint in 1974. Together they owned and operated Southwest Carpet in Garden City before retiring to Wichita.

Cecilia is survived by her children, Linda Mudd and husband Darrell, of Wichita; Marie Rohleder and husband Jerry, of Omaha, Neb., Diane Jensen and husband Jim, of Wichita and Neal R. Pfeifer and wife Laurie, of Chesterfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Cecilia also has six step children: Richard Quint, Jr., of Nixa, Mo.; Rodney Quint of Lake Mary, Fla.; Katherine Vogel of Loveland, Colo.; Evelyn McMillan of Pacific, Mo.; Donna Rooney of Bartlette, Ill.; and Deborah Landry of Mukilteo, Wash.

Her surviving siblings are Loretta Joy of Temple, Texas; Helen Edmunds of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; Mary L. Schmidt of Hays; Marion Schmidt and wife Donna of Hays; and Don Schmidt and wife Rose of Sun City, Ariz.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine St.

There will be a VFW Auxiliary rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials for Cecilia Quint can be sent to the Endowment Foundation of Thomas More Prep-Marian, Inc., in the name of the Paul J. and Catherine Schmidt family.
