Bennie Lanell Pickering Buckley was the daughter of Isaac and Cora Pickering and born on November 18, 1929. Most knew her as “Nell” or “Aunt Nell”.

Visitation will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Hebron Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Shows, Temple Baptist Church and Rev. Kenneth Owen, Aldersgate Chaplain. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Nell married Fred Buckley on March 17, 1947 and they had one daughter, Lawona Buckley Broadfoot. Nell considered her son-in-law, Danny Broadfoot, as her own son. Her pride and joy was her grandson, Dane Kimbrough Broadfoot.

Nell served as a military wife for 20 years and lived in several parts of the world and moved back “home” to Hebron, Mississippi to retire. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and worked at the Jones County Tax Assessor’s Office in Ellisville for 10 years. She was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress and a quilter. She had a wit and charm that made her special to all who met her.

She leaves behind her daughter Lawona (Danny) Broadfoot of Meridian, a grandson Dane Kimbrough Broadfoot (Becky) of Madison, one sister Elsie McQueen of Collins and many loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Fred Buckley. She was also predeceased by brothers, J.C. Pickering, Ikey Pickering, Merrill Pickering, Tommy Pickering and Dewitt Pickering and sisters Verna Gordon, Kathleen Williamson, Pattie Mae Gunn and Peggy Pickering. Nell’s family was her heart.

Serving as pallbearers will be Nell’s nephews: Lee Gordon, Keith Holley, Roger McIntosh, David McQueen, James Thomas Pickering and Neil Pickering. Honorary pallbearers will be residents and staff of Aldersgate Retirement Community in Meridian where Nell resided the last year. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Aldersgate.

Nell lived her life for the Lord and went home on March 25, 2015. She was much loved and shall be missed but we will see her again.

Memory Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
