Samuel S Miller was born in Rockingham County, Virginia on the 12 October 1836 the son of John Jacob and Rebecca Swern Miller and died on the 15 of September 1921 in Brooklyn, Poweshiek County, Iowa. He was the seventh child of a family of thirteen children.

Samuel was united with the Church of the Brethren in 1873 in whose fellowship he found his greates joy.

He was married the 9 of September 1866 to Catharine Myers in Rockingham county, Virginia. To this union were born seven children three boys and four girls. John C, Jacob W, Laura A, Dora B, Minnie V, Anna M and Frank M.

The family made their home in Rockingham county, Virginia until 1871 when they came to Iowa and two years later they settled on the farm in Poweshiek county which since has been their home.
