He was married the 9 of September 1866 to Catharine Myers in Rockingham county, Virginia. To this union were born seven children three boys and four girls. John C, Jacob W, Laura A, Dora B, Minnie V, Anna M and Frank M.
The family made their home in Rockingham county, Virginia until 1871 when they came to Iowa and two years later they settled on the farm in Poweshiek county which since has been their home.
