When the Brooklyn Co-operative Creamery was organized, he began hauling cream. He served as a cream truck driver for 20 years.

Six children were born to this union. Theodore, Frances, Irene, Elver, Paul and Lois.
One son, Paul, died in 1921 at the age of 3.
