(Fred) Garrett Dies Thursday Salt Lake Hospital
Alfred Thomas (Fred) Garrett, 67, prominent Bountiful butcher and groceryman for the past 40 years, died at 6 a.m. Thursday in a Salt Lake Hospital of coronary occlusion.
Mr. Garrett was born in Bountiful March 16, 1889, a son of Henry and Hannah Day Garrett. He married Ruby Stringham Nov. 11, 1935; they were later divorced.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Garrett was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was a member of the Bountiful Sixth ward Seventies quorum.
He is survived by four brothers and six sisters, Charles R. Garrett, Mrs. Rose G. Burningham, Mrs. Charles W. (Lizzie) Atkinson, and Mrs. David (Martha) Wiseman, Bountiful; Joseph B., Jed, and Edward Garrett, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lucy Barlow and Mrs. Joe (Mabel) Keifer, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Ida G. Hepworth, Centerville.
He was a hard worker. You could see his car parked by his store Garrett Bros. as early as 5:30 and 6 every morning and the lights burning as late as 10 and 11 o'clock some nights.
Mr. Garrett got some of his early training in the store business when he worked with Ted Hepworth in the Hepworth Meat Market operated many years in the building now owned by The Coop shoe store.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Union Mortuary chapel in Bountiful by Bishop Harold L. Pope.
Friends may call at the place of funeral from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and after 12 noon Saturday. Burial will be in Bountiful Cemetery.
