James Foster Partridge was born January 1, 1870 at Oregon, Holt County, Missouri. He was the son of Robert Foster and Mary Alice Martin Partridge. In the spring of 1870, after James Foster was born, the Partridge family moved to Linn County, Kansas.

James Foster Partridge married Lucy Olive Barnard, February 6, 1891. They continued to live in Linn County until about the late 1890's. In 1900, the family was living in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, a few years after the Cherokee Run. By 1910, the family had returned to Kansas and were living in Stanton, Miami County, Kansas.

James F. and Lucy Partridge had 4 children: Clarence Stanley (1892-1918); Otis Russel (1898-1954); Zelma Alice (1902-1998); Alva Herbert (1912-1954). Son, Clarence Stanley Partridge was killed in action in France in WWI.
