James Boone died Tuesday, Sept 1st, at his residence on Jefferson, after a short but severe sickness, full of years and honor. He was buried on Thursday at the Mount Blount cemetery(now Maple Grove),the funeral being held at the home. He was born in Somersetshire, England, 14th Feb 1819 and came to this country in 1856, to York state and removed from there to Michigan in 1865. He leaves a wife and 10 children, 42 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family desire to return their thank to the friends and neighbors that assembled to pay the last sad rites and especially thank the choir for thier beautiful singing. When from the earth they go to meet, their savior.

The family began its story in the Parish of North Petherton, in the County of Somerset, England. Many generations of Boones lived in North Petherton. The earliest known records of a Boon/Boone showed the marriage of Marmanducke Boone to Margery Cutberte on October 11, 1562.
The year John was born his father, John, passed away leaving his mother, Maria and three other children. So it was, young James and brother Henry became farmers. Henry stayed in England, never married and died there.
