"Carrie" Merrick was born in Dade County in her parent's home, about three miles west of Pennsboro, MO. She was named after her grandmother, Caroline Williamson, who had died four weeks before she was born. When Carrie was a teenager, she met George Miller, who worked in a hardware store in Pennsboro, MO, where her parents did their shopping.

On June 6, 1910 she and George Miller were married, and she lived in the Greenfield/South Greenfield area in central Dade County all her life. She died in her home shortly after midnight on May 3, 1958. She had been in failing health, and her son Dale, who lived in St. Louis, had came in for a surprise visit to her. When Dale arrived, his brother Leroy was sitting up, waiting for him to get there. They went in the bedroom to surprise their mother, but she had passed away quietly in her sleep.

Funeral services for Carrie were held on Sunday, May 4, 1958, in the South Greenfield Baptist Church, and she was buried in Pennsboro Cemetery. After her death, her husband George moved in with his son Leroy, and lived there until his death in 1966.
