Ernest Dale Miller was born October 13, 1915 in central Dade County, MO, near South Greenfield. He grew up on a farm that was previously owned by his grandfather, John M. Miller.

Dale attended school in South Greenfield and Greenfield. As a young man, Dale worked for Harve Fuqua in the Fuqua/Cox Funeral Home in South Greenfield. About 1942, Dale moved to St. Louis, MO, where he got a job working for Civil Service, at a military supply distribution center.

In 1945 Dale married the love of his life, Ruth Pollard, and they purchased a home in north St. Louis, not far from the Mississippi River. Ruth was employed as a teacher in a school for the blind. They had one child, Charles Kevin, who was born in 1956.

Charles joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school, and was sent to a Marine base in Hawaii. He was killed in an accident Sept 19, 1976 while serving with the Marines. Dale and Ruth later adopted another son, Marc Gordon, in 1980.

Dale died on March 4, 2001 of heart problems, and complications after surgery. He was buried in Laurel Hills Cemetery in west central St. Louis.
