Dr. Huling Herbert Rothrock was the only child of George Rothrock (1781-1851) and Prudence Herter Purdue Thomas (no dates known, born at Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania; daughter of Huling Herter). George had ten known children (seven boys and three girls) by his 1st wife, Isabella Test Rothrock (1789-1830), whom he married on 21 May 1807 at York, York County, Pennsylvania. George was a widower, living with his son George Test Rothrock; in 1850.
In 1860, as at the time of the Federal Census, Huling was a dentist, living with the Duran B. Etner family at Stormstown, Centre County, Pennsylvania. Huling married Lydia Ann Canan (1843-1892) on 04 Sep 1861, probably at Stormstown. Lydia was the daughter of James Canan (???-1881) and Anna Elizabeth Williams Canan (1825-1889).
Huling and Lydia were the parents of seven known children, five boys and two girls. All seven children lived to maturity. The children were namely:
1. Anna Virginia Rothrock Weston (1862-1930)
2. James Huling Herbert Rothrock (1864-1930)
3. Clifford Thompson Rothrock (1866-1932)
4. Marian Amanda Rothrock Reed (1868-1952)
5. Earnest Hart Rothrock (1869-1908)
6. William Canan Rothrock (1871-1954)
7. Harold Alton Rothrock (1887-1938)
