ERNEST H. ROTHROCK

Tyrone Citizen in Prime of Life Answers Final Summons

After nobly battling against the ravages of insatiable disease for two years Ernest H. Rothrock, one of Tyrone's prominent business men, was summoned by death, passing away at 9:25 o'clock Wednesday night at his home, 1829 Logan Avenue.

The illness which culminated in his demise was of long duration as he had been a sufferer from diabetes for the past two years. All effort to stay the malady was made, and twice Mr. Rothrock went to Sewannee Springs, Florida, for treatment, returning from the south the last time only six weeks ago. He seemed much benefitted, but the treatment was not lasting. Last Friday a week he took ill and by Monday his ailment became very alarming. Since then he sank steadily until the end came.

Ernest Hart Rothrock was born at Bellefonte, September 27, 1869, and at the time of his death he was aged 38 years, 9 months and 18 days. His boyhood and youth were spent in Centre county and he came to Tyrone as a young man to work at his trade as painter. He has lived here for the past twenty years, except for one year spent at Pitcairn. Five years ago he took charge of the grocery store at Logan avenue and Fourteenth street, and he had since conducted it. He also continued at contracting at painting during part of this time. The deceased was a faithful Christian adherent, being a member of the First Presbyterian church. He was also a member of Sinking Spring lodge No. 127, Knights of Pythias; and of the Royal Arcanum (spelling? hard to read) and the Modern Woodman.

On December 5, 1888, Mr. Rothrock was united in marriage to Anna Virginia Funk at Milesburg. The sorrowing wife survives him, together with two sons and two daughters, William Earl, Robert M., Florence and Mary Helen. He is also survived by two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. C. Weston of Tyrone; Mr. W.W. Reed of Johnsonburg; Herbert, Clifford, William and Harold of Lock Haven. The death of this good man, a devoted husband and father, who preferred home, even at the risk of fatal illness when the far-away climate seemed the place for him to him to secure health, is a sad blow to the loving ones of his household, and is deplored by all who knew and admired his sterling qualities.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. George T. Gunter at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, at the late home of the deceased. Internment in Grandview Cemetery.
