Services to be Wednesday for W.H. Alden, 68
Funeral services for William Herbert Alden, 68, of 1821 34th St., Rock Island, who died at 7:55 Saturday morning in St. Anthony's Hospital following a five-week illness, will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Knox-Larson Funeral Home. The Rev. Eugene Darling, pastor of Memorial Heights Methodist Church will officiate.
The body will then be taken to the Wallace Brothers Funeral Home in Wyoming, Iowa, where services will be held in the Wyoming Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. George Tjaden will officiate, and burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery. Masonic rites will be performed by Keystone Lodge, No. 206, Wyoming.
Mr. Alden was born in Wyoming, Dec. 13, 1888, a son of the late Alton G. and Elizabeth Saxon Alden. He married Ethel Elizabeth Westbay Sept. 18, 1918.
He was employed as a precision machinist at the Robert Rote Co. and was a member of the Milan Presbyterian Church.
An active Mason, Mr. Alden, was a member of Eureka Lodge, No. 69, AF & AM, Milan; Rock Island chapter No. 18, Royal Arch Masons; Rock Island Council No. 20, Royal and Select Masons; Mt. Olivet Commandery, No. 36, Knights Templar, Anamosa, Iowa; White Shrine of Jerusalem, Rock Island; and Amoo Grotto, Rock Island.
He was past master of Keystone Lodge, No. 206 Wyoming, and past patron of Milan chapter, No. 326, and Wyoming chapter, No. 397, Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are the widow; a son Sgt. John W. Alden of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Elva Alden Brodersen of Los Angeles, Calif, and Miss Ruth V. Alden of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Robert G. Alden of Wyoming; two granddaughters, and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
