FULTON - Willie Mae "Granny" Christian, 98, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at her home in Fulton. She was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Itawamba County, the daughter of James Freeman and Susie Romine York.
A member of Friendship United Methodist Church, she was owner and operator of Christian?s Store since the early 1930s. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed fishing, gardening, tending her cattle, saving tops for St. Jude and spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
Her body will lie in repose at Friendship United Methodist Church one hour prior to services at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Harold Manning and the Rev. Don Sparks will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Christian; a son, James Marshall Christian; a son-in-law, David Beane; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Gregg; a brother, John Allen York; sisters, Clyde McCullough, Elsie York, Sybil Hood, Winnie Hankins, Albert Ray York; and her parents.
Survivors include a daughter, Selma Clyde Christian Beane; nine grandchildren, David Wayne Beane (Sally), Benjamin Clyde Beane (Beverly), Thomas Alan Beane (Tami), all of Fulton, Loretta Gail Lesley of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Theresa Sheffield (Mickey) of Mantachie, Cindy Kelly (Terry) of Tupelo, Chris and Matthew Christian of Mantachie, Noah Christian (Christina) of Jackson; 15 great-grandchildren, Heather Williams (Tim), Allen Beane, John David Beane, Diana Bennett (Jason), Will Beane (Jessica), Mack Beane, Alanna Beane, Mylie Beane, Brooke Balderas (Gabe), Jordan Lesley, Preston Sheffield, Mark-Alan Sheffield, Michael Kelly, Morgan Kelly, Marshall Mark Christian; six great-great-grandchildren, Kayla, Lance and Katherine Williams, Drew York, Zach Bennett, Gabriella Balderas; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Christian; sisters-in-law, Charlene York, Melrose Loague, Arlene Enright, Varnell Haile, Mildred Rock, Wayne Miller, Juanita Christian; special caregiver, Arlene Shedd and a special granddaughter, Melanie Lindley.
