The funeral of James Titsworth Pearce was held Saturday. James Titsworth Pearce was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Pearce and was born at the Pearce homestead on Feb. 18, 1837. He was married to Miss Mary C. Gannon Feb. 28, 1873. To this union were born eight children, Dr. J. Newton Pearce of Iowa City, Ia.; Mrs. Herbert Sawyer of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. J.W. Holland of St. Paul, Minn.; Lyman G. Pearce and Mrs. J.R. Croushorn of Aurora; and Grace, Cara, and Beulah of Oswego.
Mr. and Mrs. Pearce moved to LaMars, Ia. in 1877 where he became an extensive landowner. They returned to Illinois and settled in Oswego in 1885, where he bought the farm of his older brother, John Pearce, on which he lived for several years.
Mrs. Pearce passed away June 28, 1906 and in 1917 Mr. Pearce and his daughters removed to their present home. Mr. Pearce belongs to that race of pioneers now rapidly passing away. His father and mother were actual pioneers. He was born in pioneer time, belonging with his brothers to the group of the first white children born in Kendall county.
It is a peculiar coincidence that the three Pearce brothers, all of them advanced in years, aged 80, 87, and 90, with ten years between the oldest and youngest age should leave this earthly scene within six weeks of each other.
Mr. Pearce became a member of Raven lodge No. 303 AF&AM March 31, 1869. He became a member of Lorraine chapter, no. 70, OES in 1888, and of Aurora Commandery, KT [Knights Templar], No. 22, in the early ‘70s.
