CAME TO OSWEGO IN 1837

For Sixty-five Years a Resident of This
Section - Death of the Aged Mother.

Another of the oldest citizens gone to
be among the silent majority. Last
Friday Mrs. Sanders passed away, after
nearly a year of failing health. Her's
was a long life of shine and shade, like
that of most of humanity. Nearly thirteen
years beyond the three score and ten of
scripture was the length of her earthly
journey and then came the end.

Nancy Pearce, the daughter of Daniel
Pearce, was born May 1, 1819, near
Urbana, Champaign county, Ohio.
Her mother died when she was sixteen
months old, and she was taken to live
with her grandparents. When she was
twelve years of age they moved to Perry
county, Illinois, where she remained until
she was 18, when she came to Oswego to live
with her father. At the age of twenty-one,
on the 16th day of April, 1840, she was
married to Dr. Lyman King of Oswego.
Four children were born to them --two of
whom are dead, two daughters are living.
Mrs. Elizabeth Mason and Mrs. Marian Wormley,
of Walker Missouri. Dr. King died March 17,
1850. September 17, 1851 she became the wife of John Sanders. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders always resided in Oswego excepting the five years they were residents of Dallas, Texas. Five children were born to them --three are
dead and two living Henry and Nettie.
John Sanders died February 6, 1885. Mrs.
Sanders died March 7, 1902 aged eighty-two
years, ten months and six days.
The funeral service was held at her home
in Oswego and was attended by a large company
of sympathizing relatives and friends.
The Pearce family of which she was a member
was and probably the largest connection of
any family name in the county.
The service was conducted Sunday afternoon
by Rev. A.C.Gruber of the M. E. church, of
which she was a member. The sermon was the
development of the text, "As one whom his
mother comforteth, so will I comfort you",
Both in its structure and delivery it was
well calculated to bring consolation
to the most sorely afflicted.
The singing by a selected quartet was
appropriate tenderly rendered.
Many beautiful floral tributes were placed
upon and about the casket filling the rooms
with there fragrance. A long line of
carriages followed the remains to the Pearce
Cemetery to the grave, north of the Waubonsie,
where **** services were held at the interment.
The pall-bearers were Orson Pearce, William
Pearce, Frank Pearce, son of Isaac and Lyman
Pearce -- all nephews of the deceased, a son
of each of six brothers.
