Calvin Pearce, one of Kendall County's oldest settlers, died Friday morning at his home in Oswego, age 79 years. Mr. Pearce was born on the Pearce homestead at Oswego, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pearce, who came here from Ohio in 1833. The home is still in possession of his family. He was a member of Co. A, 127th Illinois Volunteers and served three years in the Civil War. He became a member of Raven Lodge No. 303 in 1872. In the year of 1884 he joined the Aurora Post No. 20, GAR and was a faithful member of that organization. Three years ago, Mr. Pearce and family moved to Pasadena, Calif. and there he became a member of John Godfrey Post. Mr. Pearce was married to Miss Lucy A. Perry Oct. 26, 1870 at Amboy. To this union, two children were born, Mrs. A.E. Cooney and Bernice A. Pearce. In 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Pearce and Bernice and Mrs. Cooney moved to Pasadena where new homes were established. Mr. Pearce became ill last February and desiring to see old friends and relatives returned to Oswego Oct. 7 last. During the last few weeks he failed rapidly. He is survived by his wife and two daughters; two brothers, James T. Pearce of Oswego and Daniel of Lake Charles, La. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Federated church of Oswego. Burial was in the Pearce Cemetery.
