"Mrs. Nellie Graves, 54, was pronounced dead on arrival at a St Joseph hospital this morning after she was taken there by the St Joseph Ambulance Service. The fire department received a resuscitator call from members of Mrs. Graves' family before 8 this morning when she suffered an attack at her home, 1608 Martha street. The firemen administered a small tank of oxygen but failed to revive her. They also called the ambulance.

Mrs. Graves was the wife of Richard D. Graves. She was born in Trenton, Mo., but had resided in St Joseph most of her life.

Other survivors include her mother, Mrs. Rosa Mace of St Joseph; three sons, Richard E., and Frankie Graves of St Joseph and Ronnie Earl Graves of the home; six daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Routon, Mrs. Shirley Sutton, Mrs. Kathy Sears and Mrs. Sharon Kunzler, all of St Joseph, Mrs. Connie Barber of Seattle and Roxy Graves of the home; five brothers, Homer, Ernest, Jesse and Howard Mace, all of this city, and Asa Mace of Elwood, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Virgie King of Wathena, Kan., Mrs. Bertha Wardlow of St Joseph and Mrs. Norene Gromowski of Washington, D.C.; and 14 grandchildren.

"Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Graves, 54, 1608 Martha street, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Rupp mortuary chapel. Conducting the funeral services will be the Rev. Homer Mace. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery." St Joseph Gazette, October 10, 1962
