Sherwood F.DOWNES 46. of 69 Maple St. was pronounced dead on arrival at Rockville General Hospital Thursday afternoon after being stricken at his home. He was born in Ellington the son of Rose Luetjen Downes of Ellington and the late Gordon Downes, and was a lifelong resident. He was employed by the Town of Vernon school system as a custodian at Vernon Center Middle School, was a member of Ellington Congregational Church, Ellington Grange and the Italian-American Friendship Club of Tolland. Besides his mother he leaves four brothers, Arthur Downes of Enfield, William Downes of Branford, Florida, Lewis Downes of Ellington, Earl Downes of Somers, and two sisters, Mrs Arthur Caldwell of Ellington, and Mrs Donald Dillworth of Bolton.
