Paulina was born at their home "at Polk and State Streets," shortly after her parents immigrated from Germany.

When she was 12 years old, she saw the Great Chicago Fire burn for three days, as it was just a few blocks away from their home on Fry Street.

Paulina was 22 when she married Andrew Hurter Sr. on August 21, 1879 at St. John's Evangelical Church. She and Andrew had six daughters and three sons. Three of their children, Catherine, Caroline and Charles, died before the age of one year.

Andrew followed the trade of his father as a whitewasher, as shown in the 1880 and 1900 census.

In the 1910 census, the Hurter family was indexed as "Huster." At that time, four of their children are living with them: Andrew, 22, working at a photographer's studio; Olga, 20, working as a demonstrater; William, 18, a clerical worker at an air brakes store; and Ruth, 14, who was not working. They were living at 1907 Lawndale Avenue at that time.

In the 1920 census, Andrew owned the home they were living in. Olga, her husband Charles J. Lang, and their granddaughter, Irma, lived with them. Charles immigrated from Bavaria. in 1887.

In the 1930 census, Paulina has died. Andrew now owns a house at 641 Circle Avenue, Forest Park Village, Cook county. Olga, husband Charles and granddaughter Irma are still living with Andrew.
