Clayton H Higgins, 82, well known citizen of Oldtown, near Galax, for many years, and father of Mayor McCamant Higgins, Galax, died at his home early Sunday morning, January 11. Mr. Higgins had been in declining health for some years, but had been critically ill for only a few days prior to his passing.

Born March 1, 1876, in Alleghany County, NC, he was the son of the late P Clark Higgins and wife.
In addition to the son, Mayor Higgins, one grandson, Garland Higgins, Christiansburg, survives.

Mr. Higgins’ wife, Mrs. Blanche McCamant Higgins, preceded him in death about two years ago.

Mr. Higgins was engaged in farming interests during practically all of his active life.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am today (Monday) at the home at Oldtown, by Dr. D Sidney McCarty, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Airy, NC. Interment under direction of Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, was in the family cemetery.
