McCamant Higgins, 84, of 306 Washington Street, Galax, died Monday, Nov 21, 1983 at Twin County Community Hospital.
Higgins was owner and founder of Higgins Lumber Co. and Higgins Oil Co. He served a total of 20 years on the Galax City Council, 12 as mayor. He was also a 50-year Shriner and a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula B. Higgins; four grandchildren, Mac Higgins and Clark Higgins, both of Galax, Sandra H Mohney, Tallahassee, Fla., Debra Higgins, Charlottesville; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Nov 23, at 11 o’clock at the Higgins Family Cemetery in Oldtown.
