Survived by wife Mrs. Geline Dodd, Wylie, Texas; brother Alton H. Dodd, Athens, Texas; mother and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Horace Beard, Frankston, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews.

Services 1:30 p.m. Monday, R. C. Dodd Gymnasium.

Coach R. C. Dodd

R. C. Dodd was born in Martins Mill, in Van Zandt County, Texas on December 28, 1924. He married Geline Beard on July 5, 1950 in Jacksonville, Texas. Both attended Henderson County Junior College and East Texas State Teacher's College. While attending Henderson Jr. College he made All American in basketball as a player.

Coach Dodd and Geline came to Wylie in 1953 where he was hired as a coach. He coached everything: baseball, basketball and football. In football, he regarded his best year as 1957 when the Class B Pirates, "outran and outbeat" the Class AA Plano Wildcats. His true sport love was his basketball career. He knew the game inside and out. His record was very impressive in both boys and girls varsity games under his leadership. Twenty-one District Championships were awarded his teams in seventeen years. Girls varsity teams had 510 wins and 110 losses. His boys teams had 410 wins and 143 losses. Overall, his teams won 1022 games, some of which were in Livingston before coming to Wylie.

Coach Dodd retired from coaching in 1970, and served as Jr. High Principal from 1956 through 1976. He died from a heart attack in November of 1976. Geline continued to teach until her retirement in 1998.

Coach Dodd was a Veteran of World War II. He was very active in Civic affairs. He was past president of the Wylie Lions Club and an active member of the Wylie Chamber of Commerce. He and Geline were members and very active in the Wylie Church of Christ.

In 1970 he was elected to the Wylie City Council and re-elected in 1972 and 1974. In April 1976 he became Wylie's mayor without opposition. On November 13th of that year he passed away.

Services were held at the R. C. Dodd gymnasium of the Wylie Middle School. An overflow crowd attended. Burial was at Frankston, Texas. He and Geline played a special part in the lives of their ex-students. Their kindness, generosity, caring and fairness excelled that of most disciplinarians.

Dodd elementary School is named in his honor.
