OBITUARY

C.J. Larson

Charles John Larson was born on October 19, 1843 in Ulrika [Malexander] socken, Östergötland, Sweden, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.C. Carlson, on Friday, October 14, 1927, at the advanced age of 83 years, 11 months and 15 days. Mr. Larson had been in failing health for some time of dropsy and heart trouble, but it was not until a few days before his death that his condition became critical.

Deceased was confirmed in the Lutheran church of Sweden at the age of fifteen years. On the 18th of April, 1878, he was united in marriage to Christina Charlotte Tidlund and to this union was born nine children. In the summer of 1882, they immigrated to America and located on a farm near Stratford, where they made their home until the fall of 1913. Since that time deceased had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W.C. Carlson. In the year 1919, he was preceded in death by his wife. He leaves to mourn his departure seven children and twenty-five grandchildren. The four sons and three daughters are: Charles Larson, of Rockford, Ills.; Oscar Larson, of Chicago, Ills.; Emil Larson, of Gowrie; and Walter Larson, of Hawarden; Mrs. Carrie Westling, also of Hawarden; Mrs. Emma Strom, of Badger, and Mrs. Teckla Carlson, of Fort Dodge.

Deceased was very well known here having lived here during the time when this section was not nearly so new as it is now and having gone through the privations of many of the early settlers of that time. He lived to an advanced old age and lived to see the community in which he first located in America round out to one of the best in the state. His scores of friends regret his passing and extend sincere sympathy to the surviving relatives.

Funeral services were held here at the Lutheran church Monday afternoon and were conducted by the pastor of the church, Rev. Gunnar Goransson. The remains were interred in Hardin township cemetery.
