DAVID HARVEY

David P. Harvey was the eldest child of Robert and Henrietta Harvey. He was born November 26, 1796 in Dorchester County, Maryland on his grandfather's, David Harvey, known as Fort Neck Plantation. As a small child he was to moved with his parents to the Northwest Territory. In 1803 this would become the state of Ohio. There he was to grow to adulthood in Union Township, Ross County.

On January 1, 1818 David Harvey and Rachael Simpson began the new year off by getting married. The couple eventually settled in Concord Township, Ross County, Ohio. The family would reside there for the next thirty years.

In 1835 he received land Willed from his father, Robert Harvey, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. That land is located across the road from where the Harvey Cemetery is located today. The couple would have their eldest son Riley Livi Harvey farm this land. It was eventually sold to his brother John's brother-in-law Smith.

It is known that David P. and his wife Rachael Harvey moved back and forth between Tippecanoe County, Indiana and Pickaway County, Ohio. In the 1870 Census, which was taken in August of that year, the couple were residing with their eldest daughter Rachael and her husband John Alexander Funk and their family in that county. It appears he died there.

The farm that David inhered was sold to his brother John Pollard Harvey's wives' sister and her husband John G. and Paulina Smith.

The Civil War flag holder that is seen in the picture was probably placed by a relative doing genealogy research back in the 1930s. Moved here from another grave. This David P. Harvey never fought in the Civil War. There was. I am sure, confusion on her part between him and a nephew's name. That nephew was the son of John Pollard Harvey who fought and died fighting with the Indiana 40 Company D.
