Son of James A and Celia E Bowick Johnson. Although listed in some sources as Sherod Robert, the James Alfred Johnson Family Bible pages and other documents list his name as Robert Sherod. The family moved late 1849 from Sumter to what was then Pike County, AL. On 14 Nov 1862 enlisted as a private in the 25th Alabama Infantry Regiment Company B. He was mortally wounded at Murfreesboro and transferred to Gilmer Hospital in Chattanooga where he died. He was buried at the Confederate Cemetery in Chattanooga.
