Invented, patented, and manufactured the gear driven windmill drive. The patented trade name was "New Era".

John H. McDaniel died at his home in Litchfield, Dec. 3, 1914. Burial was at Ash Grove by the side of his wife who had died five months and three days before. He was son of William and Mary McDaniel and was born Sep. 14, 1844. He married Sarah Moore, daughter of William and Mary Moore, Jan. 1, 1866. To them were born two children, George E., now of Litchfield and Mary Ethel, who died in infancy. Also surviving were grandchildren, Ruth and John; sisters, Mrs. Floyd Cox of Windsor; Mrs. Nancy Sailors of Decatur; Mrs. Jane Hoyer of Stewardson; Mrs. Carrie Ellis of Mattoon; brothers, W.
