Services Held-Services for Shirley LaVonne Armstrong Taylor of Monroe will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Pastor Harold Koughn of the Monroe United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Tools Chapel Cemetery (Fairview Cemetery) on Friday. It will be a private family burial. She will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Cremation will follow the funeral service.
The family has suggested that memorials in lieu of flowers go to the Shirley L. Taylor Memorial Fund.
Born August 24, 1928, in Monroe, Shirley was the daughter of Everett and Ruth Irene (Wood) Armstrong. She attended Monroe Schools. She moved back to Monroe in 1987 and after having lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma and California. She was a homemaker and belonged to the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Survivors are her daughter, Sharon Jones of Elkhorn, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchildren. She also leavesa brother, Bill Armstrong of Cut-N-Shoot, Texas; and a sister, Joann Mathews of Kellogg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; son Johnny Melvin; 2 grandchildren, Penny and Stephannie; and a son-in-law, Burton.
