Adolph Dayton Fuchs, 88, a resident of Uhland, TX, died peacefully in his home with family members by his side on Dec. 13. He was born at Cypress Mill, TX, on Oct. 8, 1916, and was the son of Adolph and Georgia Fuchs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Caroline Fuchs, his faithful daughter, Diane Garonzik and husband Lynn of Dallas, his loyal son, Marshall and wife Diana of Houston, and six grandchildren, Jill Kelley of Dallas, Jennifer Lynch and husband Jason of Amarillo, Mark Garonzik and wife Melinda of Amarillo, Dayton Fuchs of Washington, D.C., Cody Fuchs and Brooke Fuchs, both of Houston. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Mark and Caroline Kelley, Austin Lynch, Aubree, Audree and Colton Garonzik, his older brother, Thomas Fox and wife, Pauline of New York, his always caring sister, Opal Schnelle and husband Carlton of Fredericksburg, his younger sister, Lucy Gammons and husband Carl of Fredericksburg, and extended supportive family of nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Gladys Sorrells and husband Dan of Uhland.
His parents, his brother, Albert Fuchs, and his sister, Elmyra Nagel, preceded him in death.
He graduated from Lockhart High School in 1936 and was confirmed and joined St. John's Evangelical and Reform Church on Nov. 17, 1946. He remained an active member there until his death, serving on the church council for many years. He served his country as technician fifth grade in Germany from July 18, 1945, until July 23, 1946. He was a member of Sons of Hermann, the Texas Farm Bureau and was a Lizzyteer with the Ben Hur Shrine of Austin, TX, San Marcos Shriner, Mason 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, and the American Legion of Lockhart. He worked and owned Uhland Mercantile Store from 1940 - 1978, when he retired. He and Caroline enjoyed traveling and being with their family. He was an avid outdoorsman and shared his love and knowledge of nature, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. His unwavering love and devotion to his family, his faith, his work ethic and his wonderful sense of humor will live on with those he loved and loved him, until we rejoin him in our eternal home. He said he would be waiting for us with his "arms wide open."
Family received friends at Pennington Funeral Home from 5:30 - 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, at Pennington Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at the Live Oak Cemetery in Uhland, TX.
