Born in Jasper County, he was educated at Brook. He lived at Foresman where he owned and operated Brown's Grocery Store for 27 years. He retired and moved here four years ago where he resided at 225 W. Grace St.
In 1922 he was married at Hammond to Mary Elizabeth Yates, who survives.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving with the widow are four sons, Robert Y. Brown, Sr., John C. "Jack" Brown, Thomas L. Brown and James E. Brown, all of Rensselaer; and one sister, Mrs. Clarence (Hazel) Haynes Palmer of Kentland. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One sister preceded in death.
