Mrs. Hazel M. Haynes Palmer, 84, of Kentland, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. She had been hospitalized three days and in failing health two years.

Born in Newton County, she spent most of her life in this area, moving into Kentland in 1956 formerly was superintendent and matron of Newton County Home for 12 years.

Her first marriage was in 1913 to William B. Haynes. He died in 1948. In 1974 she was married to Clarence A. Palmer. He died Saturday in the family residence.

Mrs. Palmer was a member of the United Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Dorothy) Johnson and Mrs. Brent (Helen) Wilson, both of Kentland, Mrs. Marvin (Lois) Harris of South Holland, Ill., Mrs. David (Beatty) Whaley of Brook and Mrs. Ramon (Betty) Saylor of Rensselaer; two sons, Jack Haynes of Kentland and John Haynes of Brook; and two stepdaughters and a stepson. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded in death.

Friends may call 4-6 and 7-9- p.m. Tuesday at McMullan Funeral Home, Kentland. Service in McCullan Chapel, 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Jack Hartman officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
